Professor Stewart Walsh

Professor Walsh is the Professor of Vascular Surgery at NUI Galway. Previously, he was Associate Professor of Surgery at the University of Limerick. He graduated from University College Dublin in 1997.  From 1997 until 2010, he trained in the United Kingdom.  From 2005 until 2010, he undertook vascular research and vascular surgical training at the internationally-renowned Addenbrooke's Hospital in Cambridge.

He has been heavily involved in undergraduate teaching and postgraduate training for many years. He established and led the surgical teaching programme at the University of Limerick where he also chaired the Assessment & Course Evaluation Committee. At NUI Galway, he leads the cardiovascular module for 3rd year and final year students and has served as the Academic Lead for the NUIG Final Year Medicine programme. He leads the academic training component of the Irish Higher Surgical Training Scheme in Vascular Surgery.  Since 2013, he has been an Editor with the Cochrane Vascular group. He has written over 200 articles for peer-reviewed journals and actively supervises a number of candidates undertaking postgraduate research degrees. He has edited two books (General Surgery Outpatient Decisions and Cracking the Intercollegiate FRCS Viva).
